The design of this addition to a private single-family residence is intended to meet the owner's spatial and functional needs while minimizing its impact upon the site. Barely visible from the street, its combination of shifting volumes and rooflines, of bringing the rear elevation down to the first floor, of the introduction of a second floor balcony with balustrade, and of using stone details, posts, window fenestration and wood details that match or complement existing forms, all work to lessen the impact of the massing while creating visual interest.
